Sunday summer closings at downtown library and west branch
The library will close Sundays during the summer starting May 27 to save 20865 dollars. Five part time and three and three full time positions are affected with one new full time job created and two full time posts cut. Adult programming will shrink while efforts to protect children’s programs continue as vacancies and two part time posts remain unfilled. Library director Lori Barkema pledged to minimize children’s program cuts. Board member Susan McDermott called the budget vote painful and urged City Council to elevate library funding next year.
