YMCA funding for Cedar Rapids capital campaign may fall short
Cedar Rapids Metro Area YMCA expects to finish its five year capital drive later this year with about 8.5 million raised toward an 8 million goal. Bequests may not be available yet and some pledges were extended due to the downturn. The downtown Helen G Nassif building opened in 2002 and cost more than expected. The system carries some debt with strong 15,600 member base across Cedar Rapids Stoney Point and Marion YMCAs, up 4,500 since the new building opened. A future drive will assess Camp Wapsie and Marion YMCA needs after feasibility work.
