A Linn county jury found no damages for the father of Raejean Anderson in a Nov 9 1957 auto collision at Gave NW near Vernal St. The car owner Jo Ellen Kessler and driver B M Christensen faced a $10,000 claim. Verdict after about 50 minutes. A separate land condemnation appeal against Cedar Rapids city involves Alvin B Browns and Frank C Browns seeking $8,000 for land taken on Fiftieth St NE.
Two men faced drunk driving charges in Marion after Thursday arrest. Thomas Givens, 22, of 2420 Johnson Ave NW, pled guilty and was fined 300 dollars while Vernon Thompson, 49, of 841 Fourth Ave SE, pled innocent. A tavern bartender withdrew a prior innocent plea and pled guilty to selling beer to a minor. Fred Varino of Marion, employed by a Cedar Rapids tavern, was fined 300 dollars.
Proceedings under Iowa criminal sexual psychopath law begun against 58 year old Orva R Bailey charged with lascivious acts with a child. County attorney Nazette filed a petition to order a psychiatric exam and declare him a criminal sexual psychopath to admit him to a mental health institute. A hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday.
Cedar Rapids construction workers Local 43 planned a second ballot on a proposed 15 cents an hour raise after rejecting the Friday afternoon offer. A morning bargaining session yielded no new terms as union members prepared for a 3 p.m. meeting amid ongoing talks with the bricklayers.

Edward Andres Jr., 39, of Independence, died after his car left highway 20 four miles west of Independence and plunged into a ditch. He was pinned in the wreckage and pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital.

CHICAGO AP A jury acquitted Barry Cook 25 of murdering a sunbathing spinster three years ago in a lakefront park. He was cleared of that murder but will be returned to prison Monday to serve the remainder of a 1 to 14 year sentence for admitted assaults and robberies involving women.

Joseph C. Jirouch, 64, a Cedar Rapids brick mason for 34 years before moving to Walker, died Friday. He was a member of Eagles Aerie No. 2272. Survived by wife Mayme Jilek Jirouch, daughter Mrs A E Abbott of San Mateo, a stepdaughter Mrs Dean Hollingsworth, brother George of Cedar Rapids, two sisters in Arizona, a half sister Mrs Rose Martinek. Services Monday at 9 in Kuba's and 9:30 at St Wenceslaus Church with Msgr Anthony W Chihak. burial in St John's. Rosary by Msgr Chihak Sunday at 7:45 at funeral home.
In San Francisco, beaches were closed to swimmers after an 18 year old, Albert Kogler, died in a shark attack 50 yards offshore. His companion Shirley O’Neill, 18, swam to his aid and towed him to shore as onlookers prayed and he lost consciousness.

Ground will be broken Sunday for an 80000 addi tion to Our Savior's Lutheran church in Cedar Rapids. The 32 by 66 foot two story addition will double sanctuary size and add Sunday school space. Seating will rise from 150 to about 375 with 17 more Sunday school rooms. The brick exterior will replace the concrete block 1953 building. Pastor Rev.
