P-38 Called Most Deadly Plane in Sky
SIOUX FALLS ARMY AIR FIELD S. D. The fortress of Faro bombardment over Rome included Tech Sgt. Frank Wessale of Cedar Rapids Iowa and 540 crewmen who saw a P-38 engage and cripple enemy bombers. The craft reportedly fired 37 mm cannon at A.A.F. Forts and downed B-17s before returning. Wessale, on 50 missions, described the captured plane with insignia removed and praised the Lockheed interceptor as the most dangerous in the sky.

Missing Chicago sportsman identified as slain Oaklawn visitor
The slain man found in a Malvern ditch is Frank Abbotte of Chicago a restaurant owner and sportsman who disappeared Feb. 24 after arriving for Oaklawn Park racing. Identification by dentist Dr R D Ackerman linked bridgework to Abbotte and police say he was shot in the back of the head. Authorities note Abbotte had arrived Feb 3 and bought three horses at Oaklawn Park.
