It had rained for two days and Uncle Wiggily stayed indoors due to rheumatism. On the third day he feels better and plans a solo picnic in the woods then entertains the idea of sharing lunch with Nurse Jane. He meets Sammie and Susie Little tail who propose digging a cave and invite him to join.
Uncle Wiggily and Sammie Susie build a leaf cave for lunch using tree branches and string. A wolf approaches and yanks the roof causing the cave to collapse, burying the Wolf in wet leaves while the rabbits escape laughing. The tale promises more adventures with Uncle Wiggily and a grasshopper.
