Suspended sentence in abuse case in Cedar Rapids
A Cedar Rapids man, Danny Joe McKinney, 43, was convicted March 21 of third degree sexual abuse of his estranged wife. He received up to 10 years in prison but was given a suspended sentence, three years probation, up to 180 days at a community corrections center, and must attend counseling. The judge cited the victim's wish to avoid jail and noted legal changes making such abuse a non forceable felony with probation instead of mandatory prison.
