Rural Heritage Center showcases Maier collection in Elkader
Visitors to Elkader can tour the George Maier Rural Heritage Center in the old Elkader City Park sales barn. Maier, discharged from the Army in 1945, has collected thresher machines tools and antique autos dating to the mid 1800s. The center opens Thursday to Sunday with modest donations asked and Maier on site to explain the items. Plans aim to expand as only about 20 percent of the collection fits the current space.
