Strope Case Ends in Settlement Over Theft Losses
The Gazette reports a court mediated deal reducing Crum & Forster Insurance's $178,806 claim to $19,000 paid by Cedar Rapids Linn County officials. Strope and Sylvester must cover most of the settlement, with Strope paying the bulk and Sylvester about 12,000 to 13,000 of the 20,000. The county loses totaled 183,806. Strope and Sylvester previously faced prison terms and probation for related crimes, with Strope paroled in 2001. The supervisors approved the accord, calling it a closure to the case.
