Marion Independent board opened bids for the Starry school addition but none met the $154 000 bond level. After discussion architects will negotiate changes with the low bidders and report to a special meeting. The board also approved bonds and salaries and heard routine summer repair and program items.
City of Cedar Rapids announces hearings on final assessment plats for water mains projects. Objections must be filed within twenty days of first publication. hearings scheduled for June 2 at 9:00 AM. Local properties along E Avenue Northwest Wiley Boulevard Northwest and F Avenue Northwest are listed for assessment.
Robert William Gordells, a 20 year old Kansas City youth who calls himself a rodeo rider, squeezed through an 8 by 30 inch gap in a Fayette county jail cell door to gain a few hours freedom. He was recaptured near Guttenberg after riding freight trains with a girl companion who was sent back to Denver. Gordells faced robbery charges for jewels stolen from a house in Oelwein.
The Cedar City Clerk notes a plat accepted by the Council showing street extensions from Edgewood Road to LaSalle Drive and Foote Street to 1st Avenue West. Objections to the plat and schedule may be filed by May 7 and 8, 1965, with hearings at 9:00 AM.
