Iowa Pilot Dies in Oklahoma City Plane Crash
A light plane crashed on takeoff at Oklahoma City's downtown airport killing Dean E. Crecelius, 36, of Kellerton Iowa. Passengers Sherrell Van Winkle, 34, and Phyllis Van Winkle, 37, both of Creston Iowa, were hospitalized with multiple injuries. Local pilot Lowell Clark witnessed the takeoff and crash as the craft rose about 30 to 40 feet before failing. The Van Winkles had chartered the plane for a business trip to Dallas. the motor reportedly quit on takeoff.
