Greene Square Meals Depends on Volunteers and Donations
Cedar Rapids chef Maggie Hotz runs Greene Square Meals with help from volunteers from 36 churches and other groups. About 70 to 80 nightly guests and 100 planned meals are typical, with students from St. Pius X aiding in salad prep as donors supply food from grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, and weddings. The program relies on anonymous donors and community service workers to keep the free meal alive.
