Venezuela Lets Hunters Raise Caimans to Boost Population
In Apure Venezuela a government program lets hunters incubate and raise caimans rather than kill them. Eggs hatch in about 70 days and the young are raised in pens for a year before release. Officials say this increases survival and has revived both caiman and Orinoco crocodile populations after near extinction.
