Center Helps Youths Find College Admissions Center Underway

A Midwest plan by the Association of College Admissions Counselors with Sloan Foundation support opens a summer admissions center at Glenbrook High School to help youths without college offers. Starting June 1, qualified applicants who have not found a college will be assisted to fill unused freshman places at various colleges.

Registration process for college admissions

The center allows high school graduates to request registration forms with a $10 fee. Admissions directors may review files when openings arise and invite students to apply. Once a student accepts, their registration is removed from active files.

Coe College names 1958 59 Cosmos editor Mary Ann Moyer

Cedar Rapids sophomore Mary Ann Moyer named editor of Coe College The Cosmos for 1958 59. She is daughter of V L Moyer and will begin duties at the 1958 school year. New staff include David Ransel associate editor and Robert Bradford business manager.

Bernett boy injured in fall at Iowa farm

Stephen Bernett, son of Mr and Mrs Marion Bernett, is recovering in an Iowa City hospital after a fall in a barn hayloft Saturday. He and Kenneth Ervin were playing when Stephen fell through a floor hole and landed on a wagon tongue, injuring his back.

Cedar Rapids Board Tables Elementary Science Club Proposal

A Cedar Rapids school board tabled a proposal by Mrs. John F. Troxel to form two elementary science clubs using district facilities. The plan, seeking start ready and pre science groups, prompted questions on membership finance meeting space parental participation and classroom relations.

School program debate raises concerns over community参与

At a Monday board meeting in Mon day the discussion focused on a proposed school program and wider use of community members with special qualifications. Mrs Troxel and Mrs Nye backed study while B A Jensen warned against sanctioning peripheral situations and potential work for teachers. Five members including Kesler Sutherland Cook and Pfaff weighed tabling the motion to explore administratively.

Iowa Farm Wife Dies From Accidental Gunshot Wound

Mrs. Walter Englund, 40, of Clearfield, died at a Des Moines hospital from an accidental back wound. The shot occurred April 27 at her home as her husband, reloading a gun, discharged it while preparing to shoot at dogs attacking their sheep. Authorities at Mt. Ayr investigated the incident.

Retrial of Iowa Highway Access Case Is Ordered

The Iowa Supreme Court ordered a new trial for a damage suit by N. B. Wilson and his wife over access to their Des Moines property after highway widening on routes 6, 64, and 65. The court ruled certain loss of business evidence was improperly admitted and the original $14,000 damages jury instruction was incorrect.

Supreme Court Reaffirms Note Validity in Family Business Case

The Supreme Court invalidated a district court judgment that canceled a $5,000 note Forest gave her father amid a family buyout. It ruled the note valid and said partnership proof must be clear and convincing, noting tax returns failed to prove a partnership in the Miller case.

Alice V. Joyce 77 of Linn county died Monday night after a long residence in Walker. Born May 27 1880 in Bloomington Illinois she moved to Linn county at age 17. Survived by five sons Carl Orin Orville Everett Merle and four daughters Bert Kress Robert Owens Waldo Long and Joe Wood. Pair Escape Unhurt When Train Hits Car

Winthrop Willis Chesmore 26 of Rowley and his father Marshall Chesmore of Quasqueton escaped unharmed after a train struck the front of a car at a crossing Monday. The car owned by Marcella Hebel of Quasqueton rolled forward as the driver started to back up, and the collision occurred.
