Young artist Arch ie Damsden designs Herky statue with national parks
The 13 year old Archie Damsden spent about two and a half months painting a Herky for Think Iowa City. He drafted ideas on paper and then sketched onto the sculpture using a mix of national park images from books and photos. He counted 27 parks depicted including Arches and Grand Canyon, and solved challenges like a dark sky scene under the legs and balancing fine details. The sculpture will be displayed in University Heights across from Stella for the summer, and he plans further tweaks after a final review with his mom.
