Brooklyn Opera House enters new era under nonprofit inclusion
A century-old Brooklyn Opera House, shuttered after a 1998 floor collapse, is being revived by the Brooklyn Community Development nonprofit which bought the building for $1. Renovations from 2019 to 2020 cost about $4 million and added a performance hall event center and movie theater. Grants from state and local sources funded asbestos removal and repairs while preserving historic features such as the tin ceilings and original stage.
