Pope beatifies Gypsy in historic step toward tolerance
Pope John Paul II presided over a Mass in St. Peter’s Square honoring Ceferino Jimenez Malla, a Gypsy beatified along with four others, as thousands hear that charity knows no racial or cultural limits. Florentino Asensio Barroso and Gaetano Catanoso were also beatified, marking a landmark ceremony in Vatican history.
