Prime Minister Trudeau in a television interview proposed that about 10,000 Canadian youths could found a new city in the northlands to test youth values. He said the government would be willing to help with engineers doctors and other professionals who want to live in communes and stake out the new city.

Shriner James Lundstrom announced the El Kahir Shrine parade route through downtown Cedar Rapids on Thursday. Shrine units will return to the downtown area after the parade and perform in a roped off area on Second Street between Second and Third Avenues SE. A circus model is also on display in the Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. window.
The Chamber and Shrine units plan a downtown Circus Days with parades on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Free popcorn and clowns will entertain, with a sidewalk bazaar Thursday. The Shrine circus runs Friday to Sunday at the Cedar Rapids ballpark to raise funds for the Crippled Children's hospital program.
New York AP reports the YMCA national council says most local branches stopped racial discrimination in membership and facilities in the last three years. Only five of 168 YMCAs in the southeast have been suspended for failure to integrate.
About 215 PTA representatives approved a one year pilot to reorganize PTAs across the Cedar Rapids Community school district. The plan creates a Cedar Rapids Community Council with district officials, school principals, and two representatives per attendance area. Families join for 1 per family entitling PTA membership. local groups keep control of funds and by laws.
