Debbie Thornton of DeMotte Indiana learned about Knitted Knockers after a double mastectomy. The nonprofit produces handmade lightweight prostheses using special yarn for women post breast cancer procedures. They are worn in any regular bra and filled with Poly FiberFil to reduce heat and weight.
Thornton started a local Knitted Knockers chapter in Northwest Indiana with friends Kaper and Mosier to supply free knitted breast prostheses. Volunteers knit crochet and ship items to area recipients within four weeks, aiming to boost confidence and comfort for breast cancer patients.
