Jury spares Moussaoui from execution verdict
After six weeks of testimony and argument, a mixed jury in Alexandria Virginia spared Zacarias Moussaoui from the death penalty. The panel failed to reach unanimity on aggravating factors though nine men and three women found some mitigating evidence in his troubled background. The judge set a life sentence for Moussaoui to be issued the next morning.

Kidney gift binds long time friends after tragedy
In Iowa City Dan Boonstra 56 Cedar Rapids received a kidney from Nicole Richardson 27 daughter of Guy Richardson 57 of Jefferson and Nancy Richardson director of the Iowa Department of Transportation after Nicole died in a shooting in Colorado. Nicole had become a lawyer with the Colorado Public Defender's Office in Grand Junction.
