Marlin G. Pennington, 39, was arrested Saturday afternoon by Cedar Rapids police on a warrant from an information accusing him of assault with intent to inflict great bodily injury. Justice of the Peace Glenn Powers issued the warrant after a Cedar Rapids woman signed the information alleging he beat her with a belt early Saturday. Pennington, of 380 Twenty sixth avenue SW, was held in the city jail Saturday night in lieu of $1,000 bond.
Gary Holub aged 18 of Central City was admitted to St Luke's hospital with an ankle injury and arm and hand abrasions after a motorcycle crash in Central City on Saturday. Daniel Miell, 19, of Central City was treated and released. Linn County sheriff's office investigated. driver identity and other details unavailable.
Ole Abner, a coon dog, helped detain two boys accused of stealing at a service station. Jack Moon chased the youths, and Abner bayed them into a wall until police were called. They were jailed for grand larceny. The dog then playfully bit their faces as a warning.
Eve lyn LeTourneau, 68, mother of five and founder of the Winona Bible camp and LeTourneau college, was selected U S Mother of the Year from 51 contestants. She leads a long career in education and community service with husband Robert LeTourneau in Longview Texas.
