North central and central Texas prepared for renewed floods as the Brazos River rose again following six inch rain bursts Friday. The swollen river spilled into low lying towns last week and threatened further damage Saturday.
President Eisenhower authorized one million dollars in federal disaster aid for Texas flood areas as Dennis Brazos residents brace for possible evacuations. Across Wichita Falls and Fort Worth area, rivers rose with six inch rains causing shelters and urgent warnings. Meanwhile Scotty McLeod testified Dulles nearly fired him four years ago amid leak allegations and security concerns, with Senate hearings detailing his nomination as ambassador to Ireland.
Speaker Rayburn told Democratic leaders at a three day conference that Congress will trim the budget enough to fund a tax cut for all. He praised a possible 3 to 5 billion dollar reduction from President Eisenhower's nearly 72 billion dollar budget without harming the country.
A steady line of sorrowing admirers filed past the bier of Senator Joseph R. McCarthy at a Washington funeral home. By midday about 1000 people had moved past the casket in a room near the White House.

Seventeen year old Jerry Ellis of 1222 Tenth street SE was killed Friday night when the car he rode in overturned on a curved road six miles north of Cedar Rapids. Driver Donald Lakey 18 of Marion route 1 said loose gravel caused the loss of control. Ellis brothers Arthur 21 and Bobby 19 were injured. both in Mercy hospital in fair condition. Jerry Lee Ellis worked for A and P markets and was born July 17 1939 in Highsprint Kentucky. He came to Cedar Rapids three years ago. Surviving are his parents Luther R Ellis Leona Mims four brothers Hugh Thomas Donald Ray Arthur James and Bobby Gene Ellis and two sisters Mary Jo Eggieston and Phyllis Ann Ellis. Services will be in Turner chapel at a time to be announced.
A Finnish freighter named Bornholm sank in the Atlantic about 1,320 miles east southeast of New York. Coast guard cutter Duane rescued all 28 crew members unharmed. The 3,320-ton vessel was en route from Spain to Wilmington Delaware.
Senator Mundt says the Senate rackets committee probes McDonald's re election as United Steelworkers president to see if union funds financed his campaign. A Berwick Pennsylvania complaint is noted. McDonald beat Donald Rarick about two to one and promises cooperation with the inquiry.

Former President Truman, in Washington for a Democratic conference, walked about 20 blocks with three reporters and quipped to reporters across from the White House, Is anybody living there now. He praised presidential leadership, noted Eisenhower budget battles, and said a budget is the President’s responsibility. White House secretary Hagerty replied a check would show presidents spend similar time away.
The Public Welfare bureau of the Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce completed the United Fund by- laws on Friday focusing on participation eligibility and proxy voting. The section sets minimum requirements for agency inclusion, with three Marion residents on the bureau and a two thirds vote for suspensions, and notes future ratification and reserve fund handling.
The fifty seventh general assembly adjourned on Friday after 110 days as the state comptroller tallied appropriations at a record $151.3 million per year, just $0.6 million below Gov. Loveless’s recommended ibiennium level. Major outlays include 31 million for Regents institutions and 17.5 million for public welfare, with capital improvements at 14.9 million. A rise of about $6 per capita is projected for the two-year period beginning July 1.
The British post office system slashed weekend mail service to balance its budget amid wage hikes. Reports say the basic 3-cent rate may rise to 3.5 cents. City dwellers outside London will have one Saturday delivery instead of two, Londoners two instead of three, with mid afternoon pickups discontinued in many areas and all deliveries halted on holidays.
The State Board of Regents will receive more than twice the prior two year level for capital improvements in the next biennium. The Senate approved 10 975 390 for the board, cutting 2 625 000 from House action but still above the 10 million Senate proposal. The final bill, after joint conference, lists current vs two years ago appropriations for UIowa 3 749 200 and 1 300 000, Iowa State College 4 120 000 and 1 674 500, and Iowa State Teachers College 2 530 000.
