Iowa City UI Art and Art History moves to new 77 million building
The University of Iowa School of Art and Art History relocates from a temporary Menards shell to a 77 million, 126597 square foot Visual Arts Building at 107 River St. The LEED silver facility features energy efficient design, natural light, operable windows, and a four level layout for ceramics sculpture metals photography and 3-D media. Moving crews work toward a May 13 deadline to vacate the old space after FEMA funded the project and the university arranged interim space. The school hosts two classes this summer with full fall classes to follow, and McGuire notes the open floor plan will foster collaboration among 40 faculty members and about 2,000 undergraduates plus 80 graduates.
