Bid-opening for Veterans Memorial Stadium delayed to May 22
Cedar Rapids officials push back the bid-opening for the Veterans Memorial Stadium baseball park by two weeks to May 22 after refinements to the project specifications. Seven Iowa contractors are submitting bids with construction costs near 12.3 million dollars and groundbreaking planned for early June. The new stadium will be built on city property beyond the current facility and is slated to open next April. The delay aims to secure lower bids as bidders refine scope with subcontractors.

Iowa Child price tag remains issue for opponents
Opponents of the Iowa Child project say lowering costs or cutting features won’t change their view that a rain forest in Iowa is a bad idea. They note plans for a $295 million five acre complex near Coralville and that Coralville officials still back up to $30 million in local funding.
