A Scott County District Court trial begins over allegations against defrocked priest James Janssen from the Davenport Diocese. The suit, filed in 2003, cites decades of abuse starting in the 1950s and seeks accountability as settlement talks collapsed.

Police gathered around a Lisbon mobile home late last night to investigate a shot fired through a window at a North Washington Street trailer park. No injuries were reported as residents were urged to stay indoors while officers searched for the shooter. In Palo, three year old Kayla Gonzales remained hospitalized after a riding mower backed over her legs at 4369 Clinton Road, operated by Amy Jo Keith.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources ruled that building the aquatic center on the current pool site at 508 Oak Street in La Porte City would not raise the 100 year flood elevation. This clears the way for a bond vote on the proposed 2.2 million facility with a June 28 referendum eyed by the pool committee. The council has not set the date. The Wolf Creek flood plain has impacted the area, and a 2001 1.5 million referendum failed 57 to 43 percent.
Misty Bruner, 25, of Sigourney, sustained minor injuries when her northbound car slowed to turn across the median three miles north of the I 80 junction. A semi truck driven by Russell Keepers, 47, of Little Falls Minnesota, struck her from behind. Bruner treated at Mercy Hospital Iowa City and released. Keepers uninjured. Charges pending.
