Iowa House Approves Broad Antitrust Bill Amid GOP Pushback
DES MOINES UPI The Iowa House voted 61 to 34 to pass a sweeping antitrust measure despite Republican objections that it restrains free trade and harms business. The bill would rewrite state antitrust laws, grant the attorney general broad investigative powers, and impose penalties including fines up to 50 000 and up to one year in prison. Exemptions apply to agricultural cooperatives soft drink bottlers labor unions and state regulated industries while amendments to curb executive removals and limit AG power were rejected.

Hearings Set in Delaware Murder Case May 12 13
Preliminary hearings for Myra Miller 19 and Dennis Fisher 30 on open murder charges tied to the death of Howard Miller 25 will be held in Delaware county magistrate court May 12 and 13. The pair, arrested April 23 in Howell county Missouri, are jailed after bail was denied. Autopsy dated Jan 18, shows Miller shot twice with a .22 rifle. Fisher’s hearing scheduled May 12 1 30 p.m. and May 13 2 p.m. for Mrs. Miller.

Wenger Escapes Briefly Faces Theft Charge
Independent Larry Wenger aged 21 escaped briefly from Buchanan county sheriff's office after being taken for a parole interview. He was recaptured about ten minutes later near the courthouse and returned to jail. Earlier, charges of larceny of a motor vehicle and assault with intent to steal a motor vehicle were filed in magistrate's court for an incident Wednesday night when he allegedly pointed a .22 caliber pistol at Randy Bessey and took his vehicle. Wenger had been jailed since Wednesday at his Independence residence and faces possible parole violation.
