Farm Work Force Boost Is First in Four Years
Washington AP reports census figures show a four percent rise in the nations farm labor force last year, driven by casual and part time workers. About 2.55 million persons did farm work for wages, with 1.191 million recording less than 25 days and 69 thousand more for wages in 1971. Migratory workers totaled 172,000, seven percent of the total, down 12 percent from 1970. Forty years ago Gen J Linton Collins noted the U S lacked a regular army division at home to replace Korean forces.

Forced Molting Discussed By Iowa Egg Producers Group
Waterloo area poultry experts and Hazleton owner Ken Johnson spoke on forced molting at an Independence meeting. Dr. William Owings cited about two percent of hens forced molt to extend life and boost egg quality, noting four reasons including cost, demand for larger eggs, pullet shortages, and price cycles. Johnson reported a 27 month recycled program with molting at 104 months, resulting in larger eggs and high grade output, and urged molting only on healthy flocks with careful timing and costs.
