Seven Women Elected to YWCA Board in Cedar Rapids Meeting

Seven women elected to three year terms on the YWCA board at the fifty-ninth annual meeting. Re-elected are Katharine Franken, Mrs. Marvin Zaidema, Mrs. F. W. Franey, and Mrs. Lorene Chehak. New members are Louise Safley, Jane Taylor, and Mrs. Roy Choate. Retiring are Edith Amen, Mrs. Rollo Pickford, and Mrs. Edwin Settle. Officers to be chosen May 12.

Honors Planned For SUI Mothers

Mothers of University of Iowa students will be honored May 9 and 10 on campus. Mortar Board hosts a luncheon and names new members while presenting a Hawkeye Mother. Open house, canoe races on the Iowa River, and a University sing finals are slated with guests at the Hancher home and several campus venues. An exhibit by the Iowa City Craft Guild and the play Brother Rat are also scheduled.

Newmans To Note Golden Wedding

Mr and Mrs O W Newman will be honored on their golden wedding anniversary with an open house at 1123 Ellis boulevard NW from 2 to 5 p m. Hosts are their son in law and daughter Frank W Miller and wife of Bellwood Illinois and their son Harold T Newman and wife of Cedar Rapids assisted by two granddaughters Beverly Newman and Mrs Lyle Nelson of Cedar Rapids and Mrs Harold T Newman Jr of Marion. The couple married Jennie M Millburn April 29 1903. He retired in 1941 after 26 years with Standard Oil. They attend Free Methodist church in Cedar Rapids for over 35 years and have six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Junior League Sends Two Delegates to U S Conference

Cedar Rapids Junior League will send Mrs. Kenneth Bastian and Mrs. Sam S. Johnson to the 31st annual conference of the Association of Junior Leagues of America in Coronado California. Delegates from 181 leagues across the U S Mexico Canada and Hawaii attend with workshops covering education legislation health welfare and public relations. Dr Lynn T White Jr Mills College president will deliver the keynote as Ronald Reagan Screen Actors Guild head speaks midweek. The final day elects new officers and regional directors.

Founders Day marked by Beta Sigma Phi Chapters in Cedar Rapids

The twenty second annual founders day was observed by 125 members across six Cedar Rapids chapters at a Roosevelt hotel banquet. Ruth Bartling welcomed pledges, new city council officers were installed, and Gamma Theta awarded its pledge of the year. Pledges and officers are listed with the program featuring local talent.

Esther Lahr Weds Eugene Helle in Sand Springs

Hopkinton residents Esther Lahr and Eugene E. Helle were married in a double ring ceremony at Immaculate Conception Church Sand Springs. The bride daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Lahr Hopkinton wore white satin and lace with a cathedral train. The groom's parents are Mr and Mrs William Helle of Earlville. A reception for 150 was held at the bride’s home. The couple will live on a farm near Greeley after a wedding trip.
