Husband pleads China release for detained wife Gao Zhan
Xue Donghua, now a U S citizen, urged Beijing to free his wife Gao Zhan who is held on espionage charges in China. The couple and their son were detained during a family New Year visit. Xue and Gao are permanent U S residents awaiting citizenship when the oath was taken. A rights group reported another American scholar Li Shaomin was detained in Hong Kong.

Young survivor Erika Nordby goes home in Edmonton
14 month old Erika Nordby left hospital after a two hour heart stop in frigid February night. Paramedics found her face down in snow with a body temperature of 61 degrees. Doctors called her recovery miraculous as frostbite healed without amputation and she showed no brain or organ damage. Her mother Leyla Nordby praised Erika's fighting spirit.
