United Nations representatives will attend a two day conference in Cedar Rapids May 4 and 5 at Stouffer's hotel titled The Management of Global Change. Key speakers include Alan Keyes and Brian Urquhart with involvement from Jeane Kirkpatrick's replacement.
Three second and third grade students were named top winners in the Marion American Legion and Auxiliary Americanism Coloring Book Contest. Lisa Forquer Dawn Schoeberl and Rob Strasburger each received a $5 prize and a small American flag.
Activities planned include basketball, square dance lessons, learning center sessions, Headstart, WIC program, stained glass class, mime class, and various workshops across Sunday to Saturday. Key events include FreeScale basketball, Diamond Square Dance, Advanced Square Dance, H and H Plus Square Dance, and Kirkwood classes.
Frances B. Sterner, 69, of 1210 19th Ave SW, sustained minor injuries Friday in a one car wreck on Highway 151 one mile west of Anamosa. Iowa State Patrol said she attempted to pass another vehicle, drove onto the north shoulder, slid across both lanes, and flipped onto its top in the south ditch. She was transported to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, treated and released, and charged with failure to maintain control.
Becky A. Kelsey 22 and Tarrel R. Price 23 admitted assaulting Palo police officer Richard McLaud during an arrest attempt. Kelsey fined 150 dollars for kicking McLaud. Price jailed 7 days with work release and ordered to pay 79 dollars for damage to the officer’s watch and glasses.
Larry G Cross of 758 Eighth Ave Marion reports a month old burglary with jewelry change and liquor valued at 1293 dollars missing. The case was disclosed this week by police as part of Marion briefs.
