Churches unite to aid community housing efforts in Iowa cities
HIAWATHA and CEDAR RAPIDS churches join with Habitat for Humanity and Ecumenical Center partners to fund and build homes. Eleven Marion churches formed the Social Concerns Committee in 1993 and seek a third Habitat home. The Cedar Rapids Ecumenical Center houses a Head Start program and 32 low rent units funded by bonds and grants. Faith in Action coordinates referrals and services avoiding government funding, emphasizing private giving and cross faith collaboration.
