IBP Expands in Waterloo Area with Large Slaughter Plant

IBP plans a Waterloo facility capable of slaughtering four million hogs annually, employing 1,200 to 1,500 workers with a $20 million payroll. The firm operates 15 plants across eight states, including pork sites at Columbus Junction Council Bluffs and Storm Lake and a Denison beef operation. IBP employs 5,500 in Iowa with an $88 million payroll. last year sales reached $7.7 billion, processing 7.8 million cattle and 7.5 million hogs. Deere & Co. hires 7,050 in the Waterloo region.
