Vinton man charged in willful injury case and abuse probe
Robert L. Rouse 22 of Vinton appeared in Benton County Magistrate's Court on a willful injury charge after allegedly striking a 5 year old girl in the abdomen. The child remains hospitalized. Rouse was released under pre trial supervision with contact bans and property restrictions. A separate Webster City investigation widens into sexual abuse of several boys in the Fort Dodge area as Quinlan Porter 57 faces multiple counts and Stephen Craig Nelson 35 was already arrested. The cases hinge on interviews with boys aged 11 and 12 and a raid that uncovered a video arcade style setting.

Grass fire closes part of I 80 near Brooklyn
A grass fire burned along a two mile stretch of Interstate 80 southeast of Brooklyn, forcing one lane of eastbound traffic to detour as crews from Brooklyn and Victor fought flames. Windy conditions hampered containment, with about 20 firefighters and six trucks deployed and an estimated 3500 gallons of water used. Police directed traffic away from the blaze. Fire officials suspect a discarded cigarette started the fire.
