Cat research may aid humans by feline leukemia vaccine work
Washington State University scientists seek a vaccine to protect cats from feline leukemia virus and hope breakthroughs could aid human cancer treatment. Dr. Richard Ott notes cats share environments with humans but the disease is not human transmissible, though it is contagious among cats and can pass to offspring. He cautions it may be two to three years before a usable feline leukemia vaccine emerges and highlights cats as valuable models due to similar immune responses to humans.
