War Labor Board Faults Employers Over Unions
The War Labor Board said some employers tend to strike the majority status of unions when contracts expire. The Chicago area example involved Chicago Transformer Co. and United Electrical Workers CIO. The board upheld an order extending provisions of the old contract and set a 30 day deadline to reach a new agreement.

Deserted Child Starves in Flat in San Francisco
The mummified body of 7 year old De lores Flack, crippled and mentally deficient, was found in a deserted San Francisco flat. Her mother Louise Flack, 28, estranged wife of Marvin Flack, is sought for questioning after the child reportedly starved to death weeks ago while the parent was away in Alaska with a construction crew. The child weighed only 26 pounds at death. neighbors had not seen the mother for six weeks.
