Timber Acres Needed On Average In NE Iowa Farm

45 to 66 timber acres on the average on the Will Thompson farm in Allamakee County are targeted for forest management. Forester MA Ellerhoff and county conservationist Don Sheetz explain oak die-off links to overgrazing and drought, with 20 acres to be fenced for forest reserve and replanting. The project funds forestry work via farm service applications, not direct inducements, with farmers paying for planted trees and receiving technical guidance.

He notes farm help will be scarce and wages will rise from five to fifteen dollars a month above last year. Last year asking wages were 25 to 35 dollars. current asks are 35 to 45 dollars.
