Iowa House backs transfer tax rise to fund title guarantees
The Iowa House approved a 2.5 million a year increase in the real estate transfer tax to finance a new title guarantee program and fund title safeguards via the Iowa Housing Finance Authority. The measure raises the tax from 55 cents to $1 per $500 of value for two years starting July 1 and directs escrow interest to help reduce low-interest loan fees.
