Iowa wind jobs to more than double by 2020

A Wind Energy Association release cites Navigant Consulting predicting Iowa will add over 9 billion dollars in investment and up to 17,000 wind related jobs by 2020 led by Gov Branstad and incoming Gov Reynolds. Wind already supplies over 36 percent of electricity and could exceed 40 percent soon. The report notes 6,300 MW installed capacity and utility investments totaling 4.6 billion dollars. Wind turbine service technicians expected to grow fastest nationwide.

Medicaid advocate Shouse dies at 49 in Iowa

Rhonda Shouse, a longtime advocate for Iowa's mentally ill and Medicaid beneficiaries, died at 49 due to health complications. The Gazette former reporter led a 2500-member Medicaid group, spoke at the state Legislature, and organized trips for beneficiaries to meet lawmakers. A memorial service is planned in Hiawatha.

UI merges alumni association and foundation into one unit

The University of Iowa plans to unite its alumni association and US Foundation into a single organization to boost alumni engagement and philanthropic support. President Bruce Harreld leads the effort with Lynette Marshall of the Foundation slated to head the new entity.
