Senate moves to fix heavy equipment sales tax repeal error
Iowa Senate approved a bill to reinstate the sales tax on heavy machinery retroactive to July 1, 2008, after a 2008 tax code rewrite unintentionally repealed it. The move aims to restore about 7 million a year in revenue and cover refunds and interest estimated at 20 to 30 million, despite GOP concerns about creating a new tax and potential court challenges.
