City Council to Hold Hearing on Downtown Parking Fee Increases
A public hearing on April 11 at 9 a.m. will consider a proposal to raise parking fees downtown. Meter rates outside the core would rise from 35 to 40 cents per hour, downtown two hour meters from 40 to 50 cents, meter violation fines from 3 to 5 dollars, and monthly parking would increase by 5 dollars. Transportation manager Doug Forbes says increased revenue funds a declining capital reserve and would add about 411,810 dollars beyond the 3.07 million anticipated for fiscal 2002.

Ads to greet golfers at Jones Park tees in Cedar Rapids
The Cedar Rapids City Council will approve a contract letting Beach Craft Co. of Portland place gray yardage signs at all 18 tees of the Jones Park course. The city will receive free signs valued at 6000 to 7000 dollars while the firm gains advertising. City Golf Director Tom Laurenz says the plan improves signage without harming the golf experience and similar ads may appear at other courses. He notes a dress code shift accompanies the changes and advertising on scorecards is being explored.
