Iowa Beer Bill changes moved by sponsors in general assembly

A substitute for the Cooney-Ditto beer bill is being drafted to modify provisions and add administration suggestions. The plan keeps license fees, contemplates a $1 to $1.50 per barrel state tax, and shifts fee revenue to the general fund for manufacturers and wholesalers while retail fees go to municipalities. It aims to prevent a return of saloons and to limit beer sales to towns for policing. Proponents hope to have the redrafted bill ready soon and seek consideraton this session despite mixed Senate sentiment and talk of a possible August special session.
