Principal's son sparked student protest at Gaither High
In Tampa Florida hundreds of students protested a two day suspension given to the principal's son for a gym fight. Deputies broke up the disturbance as 17 officers calmed up to 500 students. One juvenile was arrested then released to his mother.

Court Rejects Trial in Suit Against Japanese Firms
The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that Japanese manufacturers need not defend at trial in a 16 year antitrust suit alleging they conspired to dump electronic products in the United States at unfairly low prices. The court found strong evidence the conspiracy did not exist and sent the case back to the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for further action.

Air Force official urges new shuttle and more expendable rockets
Air Force space official Edward Aldridge Jr told a Senate hearing that the Challenger disaster creates a national emergency that cannot be solved by shifting to throwaway rockets. He urged both extra expendable launch vehicles and the replacement of the shuttle fleet. NASA endorsed a balance between shuttle and ELV capabilities. Relatives and newspapers reported pathologists identified remains of at least six Challenger crew members.
