Clark backs plea for more U.S. funds for small airports

U S Senator Dick Clark visited Cedar Rapids and said he will push amendments in the 1978 Air Transportation Regulatory Reform Act to raise federal funding for small airports. Cedar Rapids airport manager Roy Jameson urged maintaining 90 percent federal participation and expanding the airport development trust fund beyond the current 1.7 billion. Local officials argued smaller airports cost more per flight and need fairer disbursement, with an estimated 14 million more needed for five years of projects including runway work and a new terminal. Clark pledged to seek Treasury releases and co-sponsor input from Iowa officials.
