Rationing Now Of Wheat and Fats Rejected
Washington amid a famine emergency the Truman administration faced public rejection of immediate consumer rationing of wheat products and fats and rejected wheatless days as impractical. The decision left open future rationing if world famine conditions require, while garden aid and Hoover’s famine visit to India were noted. Officials said printing four month ration books would miss the critical period, which runs to July 1, and discussed with UNRRA and OPA representatives the limits of such steps.

Ridgefield New Jersey AP Mortris Sayre president of Corn Products Refining company warned at the annual meeting that the corn refining industry faces a very discouraging outlook and the country could run out of corn unless the artificial price system is changed Price ceilings are at the root of the trouble he said and as long as it is more profitable for farmers to feed corn to livestock the excessive feeding of cattle will continue He noted the company has been operating seven days a week since early this month after a strike last January and that corn stock built during the strike is now being used to keep operations at capacity.
