Dole conceded that Bush is a likely Republican nominee. He spoke in Washington to the US Chamber of Commerce as Michigan caucuses loomed and warned his campaign may respond before the Wisconsin primary. Bush led with 788 delegates, Gephardt and Dole remained in a fraught race for the nomination, and Robertson trailed.
