UI President Touts Budget Reforms To Sharpen University Focus
University of Iowa President Bruce Harreld announced a shift to a bottom up budgeting approach with 27 unit leaders including deans prioritizing general education funds for fiscal 2017. He said funds should advance student outcomes boost rankings and protect core values while the UI seeks targeted investments and improved faculty pay amid declining state support. Harreld warned rivals will poach assets if the university fails to defend its strengths and urged tough conversations to protect key assets and move toward excellence.
