IE refund set at 3.8 million by Iowa Commission
The Iowa Commerce Commission ruled that a rate increase by Iowa Electric Light and Power on January 1 1977 was unreasonable and ordered a refund of 3.8 million to about 190 000 customers. The company may apply rate adjustments to cover costs during Palo nuclear plant shutdowns and related coal overcharges.

Demonstrators Arrested At Palo Nuclear Plant Protest
Thirteen demonstrators were arrested outside the Duane Arnold Energy Center near Palo by Linn County deputies and security staff amid a protest to block plant reopening. Power outage hits Blairstown area brief blackout
Strong winds in Blairstown and surrounding rural areas knocked out power for about three hours Saturday morning. Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. spokesman in Belle Plaine said lines were down about 7 a.m. and service was restored by 10 a.m. Repairs were hampered and some lines had to be rehung twice.

Studded Snow Tire Rule Remains In Effect
Iowa snow up to six inches prompted a reminder that studded snow tires must be removed by April 1. The DOT notes enforcement starts March 31 at midnight with a $10 fine plus $5 court costs for violations. The law allows studded tires from November 1 to April 1.
