Uncle Ray notes homing pigeons have served as messengers for 2 400 years from ancient Greece to Baghdad and Paris. He recalls siege mail in 1870 71 and later wartime rescues aided by pigeons. The piece mentions a planned 300 000 pigeon army and a leaflet about Africa’s People and Customs.
