Golf professionals are almost amateurs says Henry McLemore
United Press staff correspondent Henry McLemore notes Gene Sarazen’s remark that top golf pros resemble amateurs in expenses and travel. A table from the Professional Golfers Association lists leaders like Craig Wood, Paul Runyon, and Denny Shute with earnings around four thousand dollars, while many great players earn under a thousand. He observes even the top names cover few tournament profits and travel costs largely from their own pockets.

Cardinals Face Infield Dilemma As Spring Training Opens
Gabby Street must fill three of four infield positions for the St. Louis Cardinals with Rogers Hornsby at second and options at shortstop and third. Charley Gelbert is replaced by Gordon Slade or Charley Wilson, Frank Frisch may miss time, and Sparky Adams is a fallback. The pitching depth remains strong with Deans Derringer Carleton supported by Haines and others, while an outfield led by Medwick Watkins and Orsatti backs a solid catching duo.
