Plain mistake in Linn inmate release blamed by clerk
Cedar Rapids officials said Chris Houston, 20, should have remained jailed after a Feb 7 release that followed his bond. The error arose from Linn County Clerk Sharon Modracek and led to a 37 day freedom before a traffic stop prompted arrest. Houston previously faced a 10 year suspended sentence for conspiracy to commit a felony and assault.

Regents OK plan to raze Hawkeye Court flood damaged units
Regents approve demolishing eight flood damaged Hawkeye Court Apartments units at a cost around 1.1 million funded by insurance FEMA and US residence system earnings. The 76 vacant units have been empty since the 2008 flood at the Hawkeye Court complex west of Mormon Trek Boulevard and Hawkeye Park Road opened 1968.

Inmate alleges medical neglect at Linn County Jail in court
Cedar Rapids man Randy Copenhaver, charged with two counts of second degree robbery and one count of second degree theft, told Judge Sean McPartland he is denied medical care for back, neck, and wrist pain and an anxiety disorder. He said a sleeping mat was removed after he filed treatment requests and that ibuprofen and anxiety meds were mismanaged. Jail medical director Dr. Braksiek said conditions are not life threatening and MRI results showed mild disc bulges. he will refer the case to a neurosurgeon for a treatment plan.
