Oelwein reports 167 nuisance cases cleared in nine months

Cedar Rapids Man Rescued From Flooded Road
Leroy D. Noggle of Cedar Rapids was rescued after his truck stalled in floodwaters on Amana Road west of Highway 965. He and his dog waited about 20 minutes for help and he was airlifted to St. Luke's Hospital for exposure to cold water and later released. investigators consider possible charges.

Waterloo man injured in fall from window
A Waterloo man fell from a window early Sunday morning on Williston Avenue. He suffered head injuries, was taken to Covenant Medical Center, then transferred to University Hospitals in Iowa City. The police did not release the man’s name or condition. Speeds on Highway 30 in Mount Vernon will drop from 50 to 35 mph near Highway 1 as the city posts signs and publishes the ordinance. Council member Neil Rud called it a good first step toward highway safety.

Emu Causes Traffic Jam on Highway 20 Near Jesup
Authorities in northeastern Iowa corralled a roaming emu that wandered into the median of Highway 20 between Jesup and Independence. The bird prompted a rolling road block as three officers, aided by a deputy, restrained it with a rope and a bag over its head to calm the animal before guiding it off the highway. The bird crossed from Black Hawk County. ownership and origin remain under investigation by the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office.
